1. Establish a game plan before you arrive.
How many drinks are you going to have? What kind? What’s your
strategy for finder foods and appetizers? By creating a game plan you
are giving yourself well-deserved permission to enjoy food, but staying
mindful and setting boundaries.
2. Don’t show up hungry.
Eat something small 30-60 minutes before you arrive.
3. Serve finger-foods onto a plate.
This keeps you aware of your portions so you don’t fall victim to mindless snacking.
4. Walk away from the table.
People will congregate in the kitchen or around the food at a party.
Serve yourself and then walk away. Otherwise our sneaky hands will
keep feeding us food while we aren’t paying attention.
5. Drink smart.
Sugary drinks are one of the biggest culprits for empty calories. Be mindful
of your mixers and have water between drinks.
6. Keep your hands busy
In social situations we tend to comfort ourselves with sipping drinks or
nibbling on food. Drink slowly, stick to your plated portions, and grab a
water or fidget with a napkin instead.
